Marten Stiglio was born in Milan (Italy) where he graduated at the University of Modern Languages (IULM) in 1974. From 1974 and 1990 he taught Italian at the National University in Mogadishu, Somalia and worked in Caracas (Venezuela) and in Tunis (Tunisia) as coordinator of formative courses. He taught in Italy between assignments abroad. He was first assigned by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto (ON, Canada), in 1990 till 1995. From 1995 to 1998 he was assigned to the I.C.I. in New York, USA. and was posted again abroad, at the I.C.I. in Washington, DC as director in 2001.
From 2005 to 2010 he directed the I.C.I. in Toronto and in august 2012 he was assigned to the I.C.I. in Montreal (QC, Canada).
He organizes Italian cultural events in the sectors of: visual arts, architecture and design, fashion, music, publishing, theatre and cinema. He collaborates with representatives of local cultural institutions and their counterparts in Italy. He assists and collaborates with visiting scholars, academic representatives, political representatives (national, regional, provincial and municipal) during cultural visits and arranges academic exchanges. He coordinates E.U. cultural projects. In 2010 he was among the founders of the EUNIC Canada Cluster. In his present assignment he is also responsible for the Italian language and culture programs for adults offered by the Institute and works at its cultural relations with immigrant’s Italian associations in Quebec.
