The ATHENA RIC was founded in 2003 comprising of three previously existing and two new institutes. It operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports. Its aims include the following: Development of scientific and technological research in the sectors of ICT; Support of development activities in the above sectors and in their applications; Life-long learning and training in the respective sectors; Management of funding programmes aiming at supporting institutions that act in its sector. ATHENA RIC: trains scientists and technicians by organizing and funding research projects, postgraduate seminars, publications, seminars and conference; cooperates under various frameworks with Universities, Research Institutes and Cultural Association; manages Culture web-sites for Regional Authorities. It has coordinate a number of cultural activities including: “Vemus: Virtual European Music School”; the 2008 “Science & technology Festival” in Athens.
ATHENA RIC will contribute content to the Performigrations Art-Installation, especially in relation to the musical components (consultancy on ethno-musicology aspects and on EU old and new musical traditions). Also, it will contribute ICT assistance/support (implementation of technical components & training).
It will work in synergy with the Athens Conservatory to: select artists representing Greece to implement the Art-Installation; co-host the Art-Installation in Athens (September 2016); organise the related cultural event (ethno-musical concert on “Migration” featuring Greek & foreign musicians); serve in the project Scientific Committee; monitor and assess activities; support project fundraising and promotion at a local & international level.
